Little Miss Muffet

So, here I am, minding my own business, working on tonight's dinner. I had the pan on the stove, heating some oil and getting ready to brown some meat for my famous crockpot chili. I turn around to dice some veggies, and when I turn back this pale little spider is dangling right above my pot! I turned around again to grab a cup so I could escort him outside... and suddenly hear a hissing sound.

You guessed it. And the poor spider lost a leg and started climbing up as fast as he could. I managed to rescue him at that point and take him outside. Then I scrubbed the pot in hot, hot water until my hands hurt. Ick!

But that's far preferable to the time that I made pancakes with old mix and ended up with a bowl full of pancake batter and some weevils floating on top. Ick!

Ever had anything weird wander into your cooking?

I don't cook (that's what I have a husband for, LOL), but not too long ago I poured myself a bowl of cereal and ended up with some kind of small bugs floating in the milk. I guess the cereal was old or had been left open or something. Ewww!

Just glad that I found it and not the kids!

I was serving a delightful shrimp dish to my BIL and his new grrrlfriend recently, hoping to offer a pleasing and impressive meal. Turns out the grrlfriend (who's much much younger) is a super picky eater and would prefer a hotdog. Also turns out there was a dead fly in my BIL's shrimp marinade. In the middle of January!

*sigh*

I once had to toss out everything in the pantry because of an infestation of some little bug.

And once, just hours before my son's July birthday party, the kids left the screen door open and my kitchen was filled - FILLED - with flies. We swatted until the floor was polka dotted, then vacuumed, then acted like nothing happened. EW!
